4 Political Observers Give Boost for Gerlach Bid
Political handicappers continue to view Congressman Jim Gerlach as the best candidate to keep Pennsylvania's 6th District in Republican hands.

The January 25th edition of the Rothenberg Political Report shows PA-6 has been moved into much safer ground and is now viewed as "Lean Republican." Before Jim's announcement to seek re-election earlier this month, Rothenberg viewed this seat as a "Pure Toss-Up" that could be taken over by the Democrats.

The Cook Political Report moved the PA-6 race from "Toss-Up" to "Lean Republican" in their weekly rankings of House races across the country, after Jim announced his decision to run for re-election.

In the January 25th edition of  National Journal's House Race Rankings, PA-6 moved from one of their Top 10 seats most likely to change parties, falling way down to the #24 spot, stating Gerlach's "re-entry into his House contest has allow the GOP to breathe easier in holding this seat."

This comes on top of comments from longtime national political expert Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia who manages the "Crystal Ball," telling the Philadelphia Inquirer on January 10th that Jim's decision to run for re-election"has saved that seat for Republicans. I think they would have lost it otherwise."

Still, in this seat that went heavily for Democrat Governor Ed Rendell and for President Obama by 17 points, this race can never be taken for granted. Jim will continue to show this heavily independent-minded electorate in PA-6 that he is the best candidate for taxpayers in Berks, Chester, Lehigh and Montgomery counties.
